The works comprised of the complete remodelling of the existing Year 3 & 4 classrooms to form 4 no. new classrooms, the creation of a new circulation corridor with access from the Hall and the complete refurbishment of existing boys and girl’s toilets, which form part of the KS2 classroom block. This included the stripping out of non-structural partitions and the installation of new acoustic partitions between classrooms, the blocking up of redundant door openings and the complete installation of new fittings, doors, sinks, benches, new light fittings, small power, new floor finishes and complete decoration.
The works were carried out over the summer holidays in 2009 and were completed on time and within budget.
Before works began an Asbestos survey was undertaken, which resulted in the removal of textured coated plasterboard ceiling throughout, floor tiles and asbestos insulation board. Although the HSE do not require textured coating to be removed by licenced contractors it is our company policy that all asbestos works are to be undertaken by specialist asbestos contractors taken from our approved list.
Due to the additional works, which took two weeks to carry out , the contract period was
extended from six weeks to eight weeks. Practical Completion was achieved on 7th September 2009, in time for the school to re-open for autumn term.
