Based on another architects recommendation, Ashleigh House Developments asked us to tender for a new build project, of which we were successful. The project was a new-build for a staff training facility and canteen for a contemporary, prestigious four star hotel located in West Kensington. The project was completed within time and at a cost of just under £300,000. We were then asked to provide a quotation for the canopy works, of which we were successful.
Canopy works - Demolition of front entrance screen and the erection of a new glazed canopy and frame and new paving to forecourt
A quote from the K West Hotels Press Release:
“The scaffolding has gone, our iconic new 40-foot steel columns are in place, and the snazzy new paving has been laid.”
The main scope of this work was the removal of existing mesh screen and the creation of a new entrance canopy and flamed granite paving to the forecourt. Steel banding was used across the front at roof level, on the north and south sides of the hotel, attached to the main support stainless steel beam and the upper parts of the column. Hangers were then fixed in place and the main horizontal support members fixed.
The supply and installation of the glass canopy proved most intricate, with constant communication with the hotel in order to install at appropriate times to reduce disturbance to guests. The canopy consisted of a 20mm laminate glass canopy cover. Areas were cordoned off to protect guests and pedestrians, with appropriate signage. The lifting crane was then positioned and the glass panel was loaded onto the crane. Mechanical working towers were then positioned and panels were lifted to steelwork and guided into position by glazers and bolted into place with 6 no fixings. This process was then repeated for all panels.
New “snazzy” granite paving was supplied and installed on the front forecourt and new tarmacadam laid in the hotel car park.
